Use of Church and Car Park During the Works

Use of Church and car park during the works

Church

The plan is for the church building to remain in use throughout the building work although access to some parts of it will be restricted during certain phases.

Having parts of the church inaccessible means that there is a lot of furniture and equipment stored in the church building.    Most of this will need to remain in the church for the duration of the construction work but things will need to be moved around from time to time, particularly when the contractors take control of the vestry area in the spring.

There is likely to be a noisy phase from mid January to mid February, when underpinning and piling work is being done.    We have written to the neighbours to explain broadly what is planned, supplying contractor contact details for anyone who wishes to raise queries or concerns.   As the work progresses, our contractors will provide the neighbours with regular updates.

Fire escape arrangements may vary from time to time as the works progress, but remain unchanged for now until further notice.

Car park

Our contractors have now hoarded off part of the car park to accommodate site cabins and storage of plant and materials.    This will leave us with very little space for car parking, particularly since the green bus will need to be parked against the church building.     Church members and those using the church for other activities will be encouraged to park further away or to walk or use public transport.   The church is served by the 202, 261, 273, SL4 and 160 bus routes.    Details of bus routes and stops can be found here:    Lee bus map

There will be a few car parking spaces (exact number to be confirmed) but these need to be reserved for use by those with mobility problems.   We will ask for blue badges to be displayed.    If you feel that you need a space but you don't have a blue badge, please speak to Stella or one of the church wardens.   We have asked our contractors to ensure that there is sufficient space for cars to enter the car park in order to drop passengers, then turn round to exit.

Alternative parking locations are shown here: Local parking maps
Please check local parking restrictions and be extra careful midweek. Birch Grove and Newstead Road are school streets (to which access is limited between 8.15am and 9.15am and between 2.45pm and 3.45pm on school days). Please also take care not to park across neighbours' drives.

If you are likely to drive to church on a Sunday morning, could you consider offering a lift to anybody who lives on your way? If you could offer a lift or would appreciate a lift, please speak to Stella or one of the wardens.

We apologise for the inconvenience that the lack of parking will cause.    Unfortunately this is unavoidable.    Thank you in advance for your patience with this.
